What if you want to use the same leather for your weaving strips as for the body of your bag?
You can use thinner, floppier leather for the weaving straps by applying glue and folding in the raw edges to create a stronger weaving piece. Create a seamless look to your bag by using one type of leather for all components. Equipment needed - leather contact glue (I recommend Renia Aquilim 315 water-based glue), a glue spreader and a heavy duty leather edge press roller tool.
How to glue 2 layers of leather together
If you have your heart set on using thinner leather than recommended for these patterns, I will show you how you can still use it by layering 2 leathers together to get a firmer bag. Equipment needed - leather contact glue (I recommend Renia Aquilim 315 water-based glue), a glue spreader and a heavy duty leather edge press roller tool.
Finishing your edges with Edge Paint or Burnishing gum
How to achieve a professional finish to your raw edges. Equipment needed - a roller dye pen, Edge Paint and base coat (Giardini, Fenice, Feiblings or Uniters are recommended brands) or burnishing gum (I recommend using Tokonole for a more natural edge finish on veg tan leather.
